3/12,
12:10pm
LETS BEGIN
WedJon Sprow named the
conversation: Sailors On The Starless Sea!.
3/12, 12:24pm
Kae'la
looks over to her grandfather, Allyn, "It feels as though something is
beginning..."
3/12,
12:27pm
Sister
ruffles her feathers and honks in anticipation.
3/12,
12:54pm
Cutting
your way through the thorns and nettles that have long overgrown these paths,
you finally reach your destination. Squatting atop a low, craggy hill, the
ruined keep looms over you. The walls on this side, the south side, are intact
and formidable, with a great tower in the southwest corner standing proudly,
though this is only a shadow of what the keep once was: the thick curtain of
thorny vines creeping upwards betrays its age. Others, such as the western
wall, are colossal heaps of granite blocks and rubble, while the more
perceptive among you can see the northeast corner seems to have disappeared
entirely into a yawning bog. A sickening miasma fills the air, and fat black
bugs buzz all around you.
Facing
north, there is a clear causeway leading to the gatehouse, its drawbridge long
ago destroyed, replaced with a few planks of aging wood. Hanging from the walls
of the gatehouse, you see a great black banner, with a sickly red rune painted
onto it.
3/12,
12:55pm
You ready
your weapons. Now is the time for retribution.
3/12,
12:56pm
Wait I
didn't what did I just do
3/12, 12:57pm
You gave a
thumbs up. Its fine, I appreciate it. Thumbs up all around.
btw, each
of you is free to act independently; even each of your characters could be
taking different actions. while strength in numbers is a definite thing, you do
not have to wait for other players before taking a course of action you think
is best.
3/12,
1:05pm
Bronwyn thinks
we should just head on up and get this over with. Someone relatively light want
to test out those planks? And can anyone read that rune?
Also what
would we be falling into, should the planks give way? Water or something
more...nasty?
3/12, 1:07pm
O'Syrus
agrees with Bronwynn. Allyn thinks we should proceed, but with caution. Kae'la
outwardly agrees with her grandfather, but is itching with anticipation
3/12,
1:14pm
Walter is
super stoked to get going on this rad adventure and thinks that all of you are
being total vaginas. LET'S GO LADIEEES
Summer B
volunteers to test the planks
3/12,
1:16pm
Elgar
follows close behind in case anything happens. Bronwyn follows with her
ten-foot pole out and ready in case some needs to grab it to steady themselves.
3/12, 1:32pm
You can
see that the moat... well, it may have been imposing years ago, but is now
little more than a boggy, muddy ditch overgrown with brambles and scuttling
with insects, maybe 5 feet deep and 10 across.
However,
near the planks, you see a horrifying sight
3/12, 1:32pm
3/12,
1:33pm
3/12, 1:33pm
3/12,
1:35pm
Are those
just regular brambles? Anyone know if this is magic or just nature grown over
people impaled on freaking spikes?
3/12, 1:35pm
Two bodies
are lashed to long wooden poles by thorny green vines, which wrap around the
corpses, as well as burrow into their leathery, mottled skin.
3/12, 1:35pm
How recent
do these corpses look?
3/12,
1:36pm
If their
skin is leathery they're not fresh
3/12,
1:37pm
unless
they tan a lot and were also sick
3/12, 1:37pm
So it may
just be overgrown with vegetation, not magical
3/12, 1:37pm
Bronwyn
takes a hard look. The vines are bright green, and seem much more vibrant and
lively than the others around. The bodies... its hard to say. They would appear
to be very old, but parts of them still appear to be fresh. In fact...
you notice
parts of them twitching. These bodies are still, in some way, alive.
3/12,
1:38pm
Because
they're being puppets about by terrifying vines.
Puppeted
keep up with me swype
3/12, 1:38pm
"Stay
back! They're alive!" Allyn yells, stating the obvious
3/12,
1:39pm
(OH GOD
THIS IS SOME RUINS SHIT)
3/12, 1:41pm
As soon as
Allyn yells, the vines spring to life. The corpses unlash from their poles, and
begin lurching toward the characters with a stuttering, thrashing gait.
3/12,
1:43pm
"I
know a lot about plants but I ain't never seen plants do that!" Michael
yells. Polka, trained from birth, plays a rimshot with her hooves.
3/12, 1:44pm
Allyn
draws his pitchfork "Back! Get back, you vine devil!" O'Syrus steps
back. Kae'la holds her torch out in front of her
3/12,
1:49pm
Bronwyn
holds ready her axe, Nesta shakily readies her pitchfork, and Elgar backs up,
grasping his razor and scissors
Fire may
be our best bet.
3/12, 1:54pm
I'm going
to go into turns right now. Kirsten, Brian, and Jen, your characters actions
will take place first, but anyone can say what their guys are going to do
(they'll just actually happen after those people and the vine creatures). After
a certain amount of time passes and you haven't acted, I'll assume that your
characters are frozen with fear, and roll over to the next turn, giving you a
sizable bonus to initiative then
3/12, 1:57pm
Allyn
stabs at the vines with his pitchfork. O'Syrus stands ready to attack with his
pitchfork. Kae'la swings her torch at the vines, trying to burn them
3/12, 2:00pm
I should
note that there are two of them. Lets say one is wearing a red tunic and one a
brown tunic. Note which one your characters are attacking.
3/12, 2:01pm
how close
are they in relation to our characters?
3/12, 2:01pm
At the
rate they're moving, they'll be upon you within the turn. Maybe 20' away.
3/12, 2:02pm
Allyn
attacked the brown tunic, Kae'la the red
3/12,
2:06pm
Nesta
stabs at the brown one as well.
Bronwyn
changes tack and uses her ten-foot pole in an attempt to knock over the red
shirt and pin it to the ground so it doesn't go running anywhere in flames.
Elgar
decides those vines look awful pointy and he doesn't do too well with poison,
so he's gonna use this time to back the hell up.
3/12,
2:19pm
Right now
I'm going to work. Just leave your actions as is convenient, I will respond on
my breaks.
3/12,
2:46pm
My
characters will all back up and try to look for areas not covered in plants. If
the vines get close enough to be attacked, my characters will all attack the
vines (Harken with his shortsword, Nino with her Pitchfork, and Nils with his
staff)
Nils,
being a bit wide eyed at all the commotion shouts "my lady, back!"
Nino
responds with an "Oh, please", grabs him by the cuff of his neck and
pulls him back with the rest
3/12,
2:52pm
I should
add that this is a comical sight, as Nino, a halfling, is pulling the much
taller Nils by his shirt collar. Well, it would be funny, if it weren't for the
horrifying vines.
3/12,
5:37pm
(sorry
just got home from work, prepping actions)
3/12,
5:43pm
Alright,
Ayumi inspects what she can from a distance but doesn't want to waste one of
her bows on these flesh-people-things. So she creeps back and watches. Dolnar
readies his club to attack, but doesn't make a move just yet. Jolim is highly
considering using his handaxe and extra speed (+5) to make a quick attack but
wants to know what the others thing about making an attack.
3/12,
5:44pm
Should
they attack the people, the vines, do it solo or as a group? or nothing at all?
As nobody
is leaping to tell you what to do, I'll delay your turn until after the vine
creatures, and you can decide for yourself what should be done.
3/12, 8:01pm
Oh, I
thought she was asking you
3/12,
8:02pm
I can't
really speak for anyone except what my characters think is best: Elgar wants to
gtfo, Nesta and Bronwyn want to try and fight. If we all gang up it may be
easier.
3/12,
8:07pm
I'm still
at work
3/12,
9:36pm
So shunuk
is looking for the best way to sneak around Zimzal is drawing his bow and
rynard is drawing his pitchfork ready to stab anything that gets to close
Action
incoming!
3/12,
11:38pm
Kae'la's
wild swings with the torch were ineffective. The vines are healthy and green,
and covered in a shiny coat of viscous fluid, making it hard for the fire to
catch. Bronwyn's pole on the other hand manages to knock down the creature, for
the moment.
3/12,
11:44pm
Meanwhile,
Nesta's pitchfork fails to do any damage, getting tangled in the creature's
ropey tendrils. Allyn, however, has an easier time, and drives his pitchfork
into the creatures midsection. Gooey, chlorophyll-green innards droop out of
the wound, and drip from the pitchfork's tines.
3/12,
11:45pm
Ignore
that
Now, on
the two vine creatures turns...
The one in
the red tunic thrashes under the applied force of Bronwyn's pole. She manages
to keep the foul thing pinned, despite its efforts. However, it manages to whip
one of its tendrils at Kae'la, inflicting 1hp of damage as it's thorns drag a
deep gash in her arm
The one in
the brown tunic wheels around to face Allyn, and its whipping vines attempt to
wrap around him. However, he manages to wrestle free of them, suffering only
1hp of damage as his midsection is squeezed with thorns.
3/12,
11:54pm
yikes
3/12,
11:54pm
Alright,
that was their action. Anybody else who wants to do something, go ahead! Word
of warning though: they rolled pretty bad this turn.
3/12,
11:55pm
i don't
think any of my weapons would really fair well with these vines...
i don't
think i want to try and attack
3/12,
11:57pm
Summer B's
eyes go blank and she leaps forward with her club
3/12,
11:58pm
Does she
attack one? If so, which?
3/12,
11:59pm
Im gonna
say the brown one as it's currently a threat
All my
peeps move in and attack that same one too.
The one currently
standing is by far the more menacing. Summer B swings her club!
12:00am
Walter
yells a lot but hangs back.
12:00am
All mine
take a step back and watch in awe
12:03am
Summer B
misses with such force that she clatters to the ground and is prone until she
uses an action to get up
12:03am
Fucks
As Harken
slashes he shouts "It's us or them! Make a move or we all go down!
12:03am
12:04am
Michaelrushes
to help Harken, pitchfork akimbo
12:06am
O'Syrus
attacks the fallen one with his pitchfork, attempting to drive it into his face
12:06am
Polka
jumps around, bleating ineffectively
12:07am
Allyn
stumbles back, holding his wound
Kae'la,
realizing her torch is doing nothing, gets behind Allyn
12:08am
Dolnar
swings his club around and shouts fiercley, barely able to stop himself from
attacking the creatures
12:12am
Elgar runs
over and pulls Summer B to her feet, and attempts to pull her back
Nesta, now
weaponless, draws back, grabs a log from Bronwyn's pack of kindling, and hurls
it at the head of the red shirt
12:15am
Dolnar can
no longer contain himself, he charges at the brown tunic and attempts to club
him
12:17am
Bronwyn
pulls up her pole, repositions, and attempts to slam her pole through the face
of the red shirt and into the ground.
She is
annoyed by Nesta grabbing her stuff, but will deal with the girl later if one
of them is not killed by these vine creatures.
(With that
I return to sleep)
(Good
night and happy combating)
12:23am
lol i'm
out for the night too! hopefully Dolnar makes a hit!
12:24am
night everyone,
I'm out too
12:24am
Hopefully
we don't all become vine puppets. Happy dreams, happy dreams
12:50pm
Typing out
this update, then sending it in the morning, for the sake of everybody here.
PS, Nesta isn't unarmed, she just missed, and her weapon struck what felt like
an angry bundle of rope rather than anything squishy.
Harken,
Nino, and Nils run together as a group, each trying to get in a solid hit on
this thing. Harken and Nils both fail to land a blow of any consequence, only
managing to momentarily tangle their weapons in the mass of vines and thorns.
However, Nino runs between them, drawing a large pair of tailoring scissors,
and jams them half-open straight through the creature's tunic and into its
abdomen. A bulging green organ bursts, emitting a nauseating smell and spilling
out a wave of hundreds of tiny, translucent, slimy green orbs. The creature
falls to its knees, and then over to its side, its vines whipping feebly before
finally falling flat. Nino will have to take an action to retrieve her scissors
from the monster's gut.
O'Syrus
gathers his courage, and launches toward the one currently pinned and thrashing
on the ground. However, his thrust is caught by one of the vines and thrown off
course, the tines colliding with the dirt instead.
I'm going
to assume, being that he's attacking out of sheer bloodlust, that Dolnar would
instead attack the red tunic'd one, eager just to clobber something. In fact,
in the lashing mess of vines and thorns, he spots an opening for attack, and
lunges into it full-force, delivering a massive blow to its head. The corpse's
skull breaks open, exposing a nearly-liquefied, purple brain awash in bright
green ooze.
Michael
sees this as his chance! He rushes in, pitchfork held above his head, and
attempts to skewer this damnable thing. However, in the flurry of whipping and
thrashing, he loses sight of his target, and his effort is for naught.
In the
confusion, Elgar pulls Summer B to her feet, and pulls her just out of harms
way.
NEW TURN
BEGINS!
12:59pm
Bronwyn
lifts her pole for a moment, and attempts to slam it down. However, the
creature's head snaps to face her, and as she brings down the pole, it lashes
its vines around it, and snaps the pole in half, throwing the halves five feet
in opposite directions. (this was a critical miss).
The
creature begins to stand up, focused intently on Bronwyn. Vines at its back
push the body upward, and it rises effortlessly to its feet. The corpse's teeth
gnash, and green ooze bubbles out from under its eyes. Its vines curved into
hooks over its head, it rears back for a scything strike.
1:00pm
Well shit.
Nesta still is going to attack the red shirt
But since
her pitchfork is not taken can she use that? Since I'd said she was going to
attack that one last night?
1:02pm
O'Syrus
and Allyn attack with their pitchforks. Kae'la tries to clobber it with the
butt of her torch.
1:02pm
And then a
10lb log, maybe six inches thick and a yard long, collides with the creature's
head, completely splattering its mushy skull on the ground behind it. There is
a pause, and then all of the creature's vines shiver like rattlesnake tails in
the air before falling lim, and the creature tumbles to the ground in a heap.
1:03pm
Ignore my
last message then, haha
1:04pm
Its
midsection bursts open, and bright green viscera explodes out of it, throwing
slimy green spheres (seeds, perhaps?) all over the ground.
1:04pm
YES YES
YES FUCK YES
BURN THE
FUCKING SEEDS OR GTFO
1:04pm
You are
out of turn order, and may act with impunity as you wish to explore.
1:05pm
Agreeing
with whoever yelled "BURN THE FUCKING SEEDS OR GTFO", Kae'la tries to
burn the seeds
1:06pm
+1
experience point to everyone.
1:07pm
**Zelda
level up music**
wait, no
lol that
was dumb
1:07pm
That was
Bronwyn, thoroughly freaked out. She then thanks Nesta for saving her. Elgar
asks Summer B if she's okay. He may or may not be in love
1:08pm
Haha, you
level up at 10xp.
1:08pm
Bronwyn
retrieves her two five-foot poles and tucks them in with her kindling.
1:11pm
O'Syrus
checks on Kae'la, who has a deep gash on her arm, but she's more concerned with
her grandfather.
1:11pm
Sister
begins waddling toward the seeds, thinking there may be a meal here, but Nesta
scoops her up. "What have I told you about eating magic seeds?"
1:11pm
As Kae'la
holds the torch to the seeds, they crackle and pop while they singe to a
green-brown, crusty puddle. She notes that they seem to roll, ever so slowly,
away from the fire while she is burning them. After 3 minutes, all of the seeds
are utterly destroyed.
1:12pm
Bronwyn
gives Kae'la an approving nod.
"Anyone
wounded?" She asks. "Do we have anything to bind injuries?"
1:14pm
(I'm at
work, I don't have my equipment list right now)
1:17pm
These are
the starting stats and equipment for everybody.
I am also
off to work, but will respond whenever able!
1:27pm
Can a
6" iron spike be used as a weapon
?
1:27pm
"Nino,
you've got some clothes, right? Any chance you'd be willing to part with a
sleeve or two to bind some wounds?" Bronwyn implores.
1:28pm
Or is it a
weapon? I think I'm thinking of like, a railroad tie, lol
*railroad
spike
1:33pm
Essentially,
no , not effectively, at least in terms of stabbing or the like. It's like a
railroad spike, or a big nail.
1:33pm
ok, thats
what I thought
I forgot
Kae'la had a staff, lol. I had her using O'Syrus' torch
2:02pm
Nino will
retrieve her scissors, cleaning them off (if any plant viscera or w/e is on
them)
